How to open BOXES:
Sometimes when you kill a monster, you may find it had a box. This usually contains coins, and often a good amount [4 to 14k]. Most of the problem is getting the box open. If you are strong, you can open the box with any weapon. If not, the best thing to do is to wield a shovel. The shovel gives you extra leverage. Type '20 force box', and it should open. Be careful however, as some boxes may be trapped. I have opened boxes only to be blasted by a fireball and have all the money destroyed in the process - not fun, but does no process - not fun, but does not happen very often. Sometimes you find a million mowgles coins in that box - this is a problem, as who could possibly carry all that many coins? If you have the spell floating disc, you are in good shape, and can put all the coins in the disc and get them to the bank that way. If not, you may need to get help. A merchant may be persuaded [with a reward of money usually] to relocate to you and perform a money exchange and/or a remote banking with transfer. Or a friend with floating disc might carry the money back for you in exchange for a cut. Sometimes such boxes are sold over sales channel, and sometimes they are simply just left where they were found.

Equipment:
As a newbie, the only place you might store your eq when you quit or over reboot is the rent hall. This gets expensive, and is almost not even worth doing. My advice is to just get free or cheap eq when you log in, and before you quit just sell what you can, and toss what you cannot sell. Every item tossed usually rewards you with at least 1 gold piece. Items can be tossed at trash cans, which can be found at stores.

Saving Equipment / Chests:
In order to really save eq, you will need a chest, and a safe place to store your chest, which will be a room in a player city. Usually you buy a room before you buy a chest. Rooms might cost between 80 to 150k depending on exact details, and the chest usually runs at least 180-190ly runs at least 180-190k. Beware when buying chests, as cheaters abound. A 'cheat' chest is a merchant made sculpture - it looks like a chest, but will not save your eq over boot. It is worthless. Buy only from people you know or are sure you can trust. Gilgal keeps a list of cheaters. You can type 'finger gilgal' to see the list. Beware of a low level player or a few day or hour old player selling expensive stuff - they may be a highbie's illegal secondary out to cheat.
[from Darlantan] 'poke seller's sculpture' can tell you if chest is fake or not.

Partying with Highbies:
Darlantan's advice: dont ever party with highbies because you dont then get to know what real exp making is and keep whining party with highbies and are too bored to solo when you see that you can only make 10% of the exp you would get with highbies.
Nyghtshade's advice: Partying with highbie can sometimes be good way to get exp, but also good way to get killed. Best to party with others around your level, unless you are level 1-15 newbie, and highbie is helping you out. I am happy to help level 1-12 newbie get exp, but others should party with those your level or just solo.

WIMPY:
I personally like wimpy because if my link is slow it saves me in fight. Wimpy makes you flee fight if your hp gets too low. Type 'help wimpy'. I like wimpy set at very low, or very very low.

Saving money:
After you get a room and a After you get a room and a chest, and have more than 200k in bank, you might consider getting a purse which you store in chest. In this purse, keep your coins like platinum, anipium, batium, and mithril. These coins take up less room than gold, so you can keep more in the purse. Also, in case of a bank robbery, they cannot touch the money you have in purse. However, if ever you forget to close chest over boot, you lose all your money in purse. I recommend you put your purse in a different chest than regular use eq, and be extra careful to close it immediately after use.
